Call quality issues with HTC Incredible on VZN?
Hey everyone,
I got my HTC Incredible last week, and have noticed since then that when I talk on the phone (handset to my ear) that I hear my own voice repeated back through the speaker at a low level, and out of phase with my own voice. This causes a phaser-type or 'more stereo' experience. However, unfortunately I get a headache after talking on it for a few minutes.
Anyone else notice this issue? It's a real problem for me. I am using it almost exclusively on a BT headset at the moment until I can get an answer from Verizon or HTC on the probable cause. I have already sent each of them an inquiry.
Cheers,
Teerracnosaur

I had that problem on my old Imagio occasionally, but haven't had it at all on the Incredible. Call Verizon Tech Support directly and see what they say. You may also try dialing *228 option 2 first and reset the programming on your phone. Won't delete anything, just gets the settings the most current. They'll probably tell you to do that anyway, so you can get ahead of the game.

You might try this fix. It does improve the sound. Found it at the Android forums
Make calls clearer:
1. Go to Phone and Dial ##778
2. Choose Edit Mode
3. Password is 000000
4. Go to CDMA Settings
5. Scroll all the way to bottom
6. Change Home Page, Home Orig, and Roam Orig from EVRC to EVRC-B
7. Hit Menu and Commit Changes
PS: you can always reverse this (back to EVRC) if it doesn't improve the sound quality. I tried it on my incred and it does seem to work.

Reason: Left out the PS :(

Did it work for you Bluesman? I wonder if changing the slot cycle would solve his dilemma. But hr should try it I guess.

I don't know if it's my imagination but it does seem to make conversations clearer.

I tried this in the upstate, NY area and it had no affect and just did the *228 but don't expect a difference. Conversations sound like low codec quality. I love everything else about the phone am am quite suprised there aren't more complaints about the sound quality.

I noticed that it "seemed" to make a difference when I was local but also noticed that while over the border in NY the quality isn't the same. Wonder if it has something to do with the service area? Albany -> Lake George area it seemed to be as original without the changes

Here’s the latest…
I received a call back this morning from Verizon Customer Service on a trouble ticket I opened early this week regarding the garbled sound and was told that a software update to address this issue specifically is scheduled within three weeks. The CSR told me she would call me back next week with a more accurate schedule of when that would be released. She said that the issue affects the Droid Incredible, the Eris and the Motorola Droid 855.
Reading from a script, she said that Motorola, HTC and Google are working on software for Verizon Wireless to resolve various audio issues including “..muffled, like in a tunnel sounding audio”. She said the software update is coming out for all three devices.
I’m really getting tired of this, but we’ll see what they say next week.

I hope that update does really resolve this. I love everything else about my Dinc, but honestly as a phone it kinda sucks. I experience far more drop-out with this phone than I did with previous phones, it doesn't really play nice with my bluetooth earbud (works, but more dropouts than holding the phone to my ear), and I can't wait for Froyo to give me voice-dialing initiated at the earbud again. I am amazed that my smartphone is so smart about everything but being a phone.

Any word on that software update? Seems the time has passed according to what that rep said.
