6/15/12 Off Topic Friday

Latest on Direct TV. I had am appointment for install between 8am and noon today, supervisor was supposed to be here between 11am and 1pm by appointment. Installer shows up at 130, no supervisor showed, no call. Installer doesn't try to install, just says it won't work because I need to connect to 5 satellites, not 3 that first 2 installers said I needed to connect to and not 2 different that second 2 installers said. 5 and that there is only clear line of sight to 3 and they aren't the right ones for HD. He did it by eye, didn't even break out the little fancy gadget they use to look for line of sight to confirm.
I gave the supervisor until 5pm to call me. He didn't so I called Direct TV and spoke with 2 people, the last being the bosses (the one I talked to on Tuesday that assured me it'd be done or heads would roll) boss, a VP named David . I don't know who's heads will roll but the he said someone will be losing their job over it.

Man, this is turning out to be a fiasco. I'm sure heads will roll for this!

Fortunately since I've been with Verizon so long I've had lots of practice to spot a line of crap a mile away from dealing with Verizon store reps for so many times. All I wanted this time was a yes or no answer. If yes, install the equipment. If no I'd say thank you for your time and offer them a cold soda since it was 98 and humid yesterday.
Before I hung up I told the man "fool me once shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me. jerk me around after asking for one more chance, shame on Direct TV"

I'm thinking that they're gonna come back and say "we told you it wouldn't work because of the trees" and blame it on you in the end...

We have Direct TV here at work, and they are looking to ditch it for AT&T U-verse. I'm not sure what's worst but it maybe worth trying something new. They are looking at the sports line up I think.

Granted this may be true BUT had the supervisor come out, like he said to me he was, on the first attempt it would've ended without me going up the food chain because he kept sending others in his place. Each technician after the first said they could do it and it'd work BUT had some excuse why they couldn't install it that day, until installer number 5 who refused to even attempt to get a signal. The supervisor was supposed to be there with him to look for signal.
Right now I'm waiting on an answer from Dish about their install policy in wooded areas and if the installers are flunky subs (the root of the problem to me) or do they work for Dish like Comcast installers. If they're just going to send some flunky who failed at construction work or Walmart, because they couldn't pass a drug test or fast food joint on the way to my house, I'm not going to bother attempting to buy from them. The first kid, Kyle (he was a classmate of my oldest daughter but a year behind), tried very hard but, IMO, was so poorly trained he didn't know what to do when plan A didn't work. If that boy gets on with a decent company he'll go far in his career I bet.
