Editing Calendar entries

I just got my new HTC Incredible. It is a large step up from my old Palm 755. I am having two problems with it though.

One: I cannot seem to edit calendar entries after I enter them as new entries. I have the instruction manual that says go to the entry and the details page and then hit "menu" and then "edit". My phone does not have an "edit". The only choices I have are "add reminder", "delete event", "share calendar", and "agenda". What do I do with this thing?

The second item is that I would like to back up my information/data on my PC like I did with the Palm. I have tried the HTC Sync and it just does not work after download. It seems to not recognize my phone. Any ideas on a good program to back up my contacts, calendar and pictures/videos in one place?

I'm in real estate so I need to have my contacts and calendar available. Other than that, I love the phone. It take great pictures and has a great display. I haven't tried video yet. I'm still learning with the phone.

First, welcome to the forum! Let's tackle your questions, starting with the second group. HTC Sync is pretty useless (as you've already learned). Your contacts can (and should) be synced through google (gmail). That serves as your backup. Are you planning to use google's calendar or one through Outlook? Pics/ videos can be saved on your phone or SD card; if you mount your phone as a disk drive you can copy and paste between either location and your laptop/ desktop.
