shuts off and vibrates 5 times green light flashes

My phone was unrooted 2 months ago worked fine. Recently it shuts off then vibrates green light stays flashing and cant turn on unless the battery is taken out. It used to do this randomly but not often since i had my phone.

It happens if im watching a video "slingbox" or anything that seems to make the phone do more, like im nfl network, flash, more complicated stuff.

But yesterday it was really messing up. Shuts off took the battery out and it would turn on but shuts off quickly and do the same thing. I did a factory reset and it didnt help, even if load pandora it shuts off. I left the battery out last night and same problem with even loading the internet.

So phone still works but just use it sparingly.

    Any Ideas?

    Thank you.

Not sure what the 5 vibrations mean. Let's ask Doug to weigh in on this...

This is interesting. I am having a similar problem. I rooted, broked my phone pretty badly, and reset the thing. Now, if I try to boot the thing it gets to the HTC incredible screen before going black screen and vibrating 5 times. If it's plugged in for just the first load screen, it boots just fine. And! If I do one of a few things (sometimes unplugging the usb cable after an attempted mount does it, often, unplugging the computer side of the usb cable while trying to mount the device does it), the screen goes black and I get 5 vibrations.

Tell me: does your computer recognize your droid?

It kills me to say it but I think both issues are hardware related. I am not sure how it happened but I think it has. In these situations we unfortunately of one method of attack, that is to flash a version of software. There are ways of trying to repair certain partitions of the device in case one may have become corrupt, but my lack of knowledge in the matter may be letting you all down. I apologize for that.

This said if you can wait a little bit longer I have moved onto others more intelligent then myself. Not sure this will yield progress but we will see.

Offroad I honestly believe you have a hardware failure of some sort, it is asmodai that leaves me completely scratching my head to the point I think I have scratched my brain.

Edit: Also the 5 vibs is some sort of qaulcomm diag code. I am unclear on what it means at this time but Enlightened directed me to a couple of threads on the interwebs with people have similar issues on different devices.

"does your computer recognize your droid?" yes my computer recognizes my phone. Do you know if htc would cover this under any warranty?

offroad, it sounds like a hardware issue for you since you were running stock everything for months and then suddenly started having problems. I would advise against re-rooting because a warranty replacement may be the only viable option.
