and on the newer computer i get a prompt on my removal disk (sdcard) that says "insert the disc of the multi-volume disk set and click ok" talking about the compressed zip file, maybe the file isn't whole?

Okay, we're going to wait for Doug or s197 to be online and functional before we go any further. As preparation for what I'm pretty sure they're going to tell you to do, are you opposed to being rooted in 2.2?

ok i found a possible problem to whats going on. i think the guy before had clockwork on the phone. i thought when i unrooted the phone clockwork would be erased/uninstalled. well anyway if i still have clockwork on my phone and i dont know it. this guy said that clockwork altered the file to be pb31img even though i capatilized all the letters and shows PB31IMG on astromanager and computer.

Not really the whole reason i went back to stock is so i can learn what rooting is and how to use it. Ill be fine going to rooted 2.2 if my phone is all the same ha ha and battery life doesnt get worse ha ha ha.

Make a copy and save it both ways- PB31IMG (no zip) and PB31IMG.zip onto the root of your SD card- not in any folders- and try again.

Isn't it simpler to just configure Windows to display file extensions?

I saw your post but 99% of the time this is not a problem. I told him to name the file both ways to cover all the bases. Most people don't want to see file extensions on a regular basis and your approach complicates things.
