Any chance of recovering phone contacts?

My wifes Incredible has the froyo 2.2 update and is a stock VZW Incredible. It got stuck in a boot loop mode (now it hangs at the little eye thingy and just stops) We have a new phone for her from VZW - but is there any hope/chance of getting her phone contacts off the old phone before sending it back? Most of her contacts were synced w/ Outlook - but she added a bunch of phone contacts not realizing there was a difference and that they would not sync.

    Thanks for any help.

PS - the phone is NOT rooted - I only have a fuzzy idea of how to do that and no real desire to unless it gets me to recovering data.

Her contacts should be synced with gmail. Did you check there?

Yep - checked Google. When you "Add new contact" there are 3 'types' available - Exchange ActiveSync, Google, and Phone. The default is Phone so almost every one she added via her phone wound up as a phone only contact and never got synced. :-(

My only hope I think is to be able to get the phone to boot long enough to export the stored data.

    Thanks,
    Bob

If they were "phone" contacts I think the only way they will be saved is if you are using Verizon's backup manager... good luck...

Hmm, here's a long shot question: when you plug the phone into the computer, does the computer recognize it?

That's what I'm thinking. Did you try logging into your verizon wireless web account and checking if the contacts are there?

Well - funny you should ask...

I plugged it in and tried once more to boot it - surprise it actually booted and I was able to mount it as 2 disk drives (E:\ & F:\) These drives are both readable; E is stuff on the phone, F is the SD card. I just made a copy of everything on the E: drive to my computer. However, when I go into "People" there are 0 contacts listed of any type. I reconfigured Exchange Sync - (the phone is not activated - but it still remembers the wifi settings) and it synced mail and Calendar events but still no contacts of any kind (even Exchange). Could the phone contacts still be there somewhere and just hidden because the phone is not activated on the network?

Clutching at straws here! My wife is a realtor and she adds new contacts almost daily - she really needs those lost contacts!!

Hang on a minute- let's call in the go-to guys. Doug? s197? There's a glimmer of hope here. Can you guys possibly work some magic?

Unfortunately my wife never realized the distinction between the 'types' of contacts (actually I didn't either until this issue came up) and never set up Backup Assistant. Since I handle all things IT for her it would have been me to do this anyway - so long story short - no they are not on the VZW web either. :-(

If I re-activate the old phone - assuming it will actually boot again* - does anyone think it might "unhide" those phone contacts? Or am I just going to make it potentially worse by re-initializing and wiping out any chance of recovery?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    * I took the battery out to get the MEID#** and it did reboot without problems when I put it back in - so I expect I can reactivate it without issues - question is still whether the contacts will then re-appear.

** Yes - then I remembered I could get this from the phone info screen! doh!!!
