    Bootloop repair manual

So you have gone and done it. It was bound to happen and you knew someday it would. You have got a case of the bootloops. With rom/kernel flashing it is almost inevitable that it will happen at some point. In this post we will go through some options to try and fix the situation.

First and most importantly don't panic. This is a fairly common situation you have found yourself in. We have all been there and come away from it ok.

The best option would be to pull the battery then reboot into recovery. From there you will flash the back up you made when you first rooted or to another backup you made when you knew the device was working correctly.

But lets say you have a new sd card or you have deleted your back on accident(cause you would never do that on purpose ;|). You would go find a rom to download and put it on your sd card to flash. My suggestion is to find a rom without overclock/undervolt kernel options. You want something simple as it could be the phone doesn't like being overclocked or the cpu setting is to low for your device. All of these phones are different, what works on one may not on another.

Now lets say you have exhausted all options, still no boot. Your still not dead in the water yet. This is where having that s-off comes in real handy. You can use a PB31IMG to get your phone to a stock state. Like as if it was brand new. From here you have 2 different option on how you would like to root it again. You can rerun the unrevoked tool, or if you have a recovery.img in the PB31IMG form you can flash that also. With the second option you just need to flash a rom with root in it and you will have root again. If you do not feel comfortable with finding the correct file or don't understand what a PB31IMG is please post a thread in the RS section and we will get you heading in the right direction.

Kinda long but I hope it helps some of you.

I applaud Doug's posting, but: some more-or-less inexperienced user who reads it could very possibly be left in the lurch by a reference to "a PB31IMG". I've been around enough to know that there are *many* files offered for download with that name, that there are many with some *other* name which have to be renamed to PB31IMG when placed on the sdcard, and each of those files each has its own purpose -- they are not interchangeable.

Which leads me to this suggestion: could this Forum provide either an FTP site or an HTTP site whence such things as "a PB31IMG" could be downloaded? Why send people all over the Internet, when we could provide our own library? I certainly don't see providing the ROM of the day, or the kernel of the week, but certainly basic stock Kernels, stock Froyo, stock Radios.

jpr, I have a site just like that but to say that HTC would be less then pleased to see it out in the open would be a understatement. With what happened to shipped-roms.com I prefer to keep them elsewhere until needed. I am not in the mood for a C&D order. So if you want to host them publicly I will be more then happy to hand them over to you. I have every recovery, radio, hboot, and RUU ever released.

Shipped.roms.com did get a C&D letter from HTC, months ago, but they came to an understanding with HTC and they're still on the air. Or has it all blown up again?

Anyways, I still think your posting leaves up in the air the issue of where to get which file to solve a bootloop problem.

This was my thought. This was just simple list of things to try before hand. I will edit the post to mention where to go to for help in that situation.
