Cyanogen and Clockwork Headaches
So I finally decided to flash a custom rom. I installed rom manager and bought the premium. Downloaded Cyanogen 7, did a backup of my current rom and flashed. Everything looks good, but no contacts and no apps or market, says I need to create an account. When I go to androidmarket.com to download apps again it says I already have them (but where, I cant find them). I tried to flash back to my original but gets hung just past recovery screen. It wont even let me factory reset. My rom manager says I need premium, so I try to buy again but it says I already have it insalled.
I'm really confused, anyone know what I did wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help yall can give me,
Casey

Yep, thanks to Akwonder. It tuned out that the CM7 version I downloaded from Rom Manager was the wrong one for the Incredible. It wouldnt let me flash GAPPS. After flashing the right CM7 I could then flash Google Apps. All is well now.
Thanks a bunch Akwonder

Hello, I've been reading the Incredible forums for a while now and couldnt help but notice that you really know whats going on with ROMs and such. I was wondering if you could help me with a problem I ran into? I rooted my phone a year ago just for tethering, and just learned about custom roms so after a month or so of trying to talk myself out of it, I did it, I flashed cyanogen mod 7. The more research I do I think I should have flashed a different rom.
I downloaded clockworkmod rom manager and bought the premium version
I did a backup of my current rom using rom manager. By the way I was running 2.2 froyo on my Incredible
I also did a backup using titanium backup
I then downloaded Cyanogen mod 7 using rom manager
I then flashed the Cyanogen mod
Everything seems awesome so far.
Although I had no contacts so I thought I would just flash my old rom and save my contacts using my gmail
No go, gets an error and also says I need premium which I already bought. When I try to buy it again it says I already have it. But the app on my phone says I dont.
Also Market says I need an account before it will open.
What did I do wrong? Maybe I should have gone with a different rom?
If you can help me I would really appreciate it, thanks for listening to me

Sorry it took so long to get back to you and I am going to be a little short in response because I'm at work. Cm7 comes without Google products so you need gapps. That should clear up your problems. If you never had your contacts synced with Google then they might be gone. I'll give you more info when I'm done.

Thanks again. I downloaded the attachment to my phone and when I opened it, it opened with rom manager. I selected to flash it and it went through the flash process and got errors in the recovery screen. One being make sure you have rom manager version 4.4.0.0. I have 3.4.0.4. Can't seem to be able to update it. When I try to update it says I already have the latest. I wonder if this is all worth it for CM7. What do you think?
Thanks again for all your help,

I'm missing the email that would go here. I asked him to reboot into recovery and flash gapps manually.

When I boot into recovery, the screen says Clockworkmod Recovery v5.0.2.0 at the top and any selection even the install zip from sd card as well as the wipe data/factory reset goes to a black screen with an arrow wheel w/top hat and stalls. Is there a way to erase or uninstall clockworkmod? It doesn't give me that option in application settings. Also won't let me download root explorer, says I already have it.
Thanks again,

ROM manager should let you flash the newest version of clockwork mod. Give that a shot and let me know what happens.
Tried the latest clockmod recovery and still no go. Which has me even more confused cause it seems like they count down 5.0.0.1 being old and 3.0.0.8 being new. Anyway trying not to bother you again I found myself on CM7 website and decided to download the version for my phone from their site. Flashed it and still nothing, then thought I'd try your zip file of gapps again with the new CM7 rom, and boom everything is great!!!
It seems the CM7 version rom manager gave me isn't the one for my phone.
I can't thank you enough for all of your help, I would've probably smashed my phone and gave up on ever trying to customize again haha.
Which leads me to another question for you, what is in your opinion the best rom for my phone? Do you like CM7? Or another?
Thank you again,
