Phone keeps voice dialing with headphones attached?
I have a stock (non-root) HTC Droid Incredible, which I really like. Except that when I take it jogging, instead of playing music, it constantly skips forward and backward in the playlist, or attempts to voice dial random people, or uses the voice dialer to open apps for no reason.
It seems like the problem is physically triggered. When I twist or jiggle the headphone cord, the music skips (or voice-dial activates), but I could also believe that air moving through the microphone could be a contributing factor. I've tried different headphones, but it doesn't matter.
Any thoughts? I assume that the phone is confused and thinks it's getting meaningful signals from a device that is both input and output (like a headset with mic, or hands-free car thing, or whatever). I don't use anything like that, and would be happy to just neuter that whole sub-system if it means I can listen to music without randomly calling people.
Thanks!
Jeff

Have you tried blowing out the headphone jack? I also wonder what you are carrying the phone in, possibly the screen is waking via something pressing the power button and moisture/ sweat goo is causing false positive touches on the screen. Power Amp has a widget that works with the phone awake but locked, don't remember if the stock player has the same feature.
To stop the calls you could put the phone in airplane mode but that wouldn't stop the ff/rew problem

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I did blowing out the jack--tough to say whether there might be some crud still in there.
I've used a few carrying methods, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. I can reproduce the problem while holding the phone perfectly still in my hand, carefully not touching any part of the phone's interface, and just twirling the headphone cable.
I think I'll just try rooting the phone, maybe I'll be able to uninstall the voice dialer from there. :-|

It sounds like a short in the headphone jack now that you mention being able to duplicate it manually and the innards of the jack are clean. I swear it sounds like a piece of something in the jack though, maybe just my old ways of thinking from days before solid state electronics.
