wifi is not working

i am new to this so i am not sure if it's because i rooted my phone or not.

i can wifi tether but.. i can no longer connect to a wifi network...
the moment i turn wifi on anywhere i go.... i have tired all .. it says unable to scan for networks... it says this after like 30 seconds or so and then the wifi green check mark unchecked itself....i am not an expert but it sounds like it's not turning on at all but the root apps do turn it on... it doesn't make sense that the android system can't turn it on, but my root app can..


i don't know much though just a thought... any ideas guys.. please help already did a soft reset.. don't want to do a factory reset

What are the root apps you speak of?
Have you installed some ROM, and did you wipe evrything before doing so?
Tried a battery pull while the phone was turned on?

I did try to put the battery while it was on and, I am using barnical, and tither and i am using the same a stock rom......
for some reason i can tither but i can't connect to wifi... i mean it won't even scan for networks.......


how ever... i did download rom maniger recently.... and i did try another..rom and it did work on that rom......
so i know it is not a hardware issue...i went back to stock.. to see if it would work and it doesn't work under my stock rom


so i don't know what is wrong with it.. i would like to keep my stock rom because i have not found a rom that
i like yet.... so.. anybody have any ideas....

If you want to wifi tether and avoid VZW charges, you can't stay with the stock VZW ROM.
Try Nils' Business Sense - Desire-Z Baseda ROM.

I use virtuous Rom its a stock 2.2 sense Rom with fixes.
