VZW Blames Samsung for Incredible Shortage

There have been reports of Droid Incredible shortages ever since the device’s release in early May, and the delays continue. Verizon Wireless’ website states that the next batch of Incredibles won’t be shipped until mid-June (see below). Today at Barclays Capital Global Communications, Media & Technology conference in New York, Verizon’s CEO Lowell McAdam finally cleared up the confusion behind these delays. He explained how interest in the Droid Incredible surpassed Big Red’s expectations, resulting in not having enough devices at launch to satisfy demand. Furthermore, he made a bolt statement, that VZ could have sold twice as many Incredibles if it weren’t for a component shortage; specifically, the Samsung AMOLED display used in HTC devices such as the Incredible, Nexus One, and Desire. So this isn’t Verizon’s fault after all! Cynicism aside, let’s focus on production, Samsung. Many Droiders have been patiently waiting weeks to get their hands on the Incredible!

Yea demand for all the mentioned phone seems to be much greater than they anticipated.
-
aaaarrrrr this means i got to wait longer to get my phone and my husband will have his by tuesday or wednesday cause of holiday...

samsung should just outsource to foxconn...the have like 500,000 employees at the massive complex in china...though i think the suicide rate would increase just a tad due to the demand ;p

It is typical of a CEO to put the blame on others, according to Hammer of Iron man two.
So Verizon is to blame, for not anticipating high demand, or at least claiming that they didn't. They should have ordered screens months in advance.

Partially true, but there have also been numerous reports of initial errors to the screen that have had to be addressed. This would slow down screen production while they were fixing the issues.

In a way Verizon is to blame, but I also read that Apple was gonna go with Samsung's AMOLED screen for the iPhone 3GS but because Samsung uses the AMOLED too on their devices Apple went in a different direction. There is an obvious conflict on interest here and clearly Samsung will take care of their orders before they take care of HTC's.
Overall, Verizon/HTC/Android took a risk going with Samsung's AMOLED knowing that Samsung uses the same technology on their equipment. It's a justifiable risk because somebody needs to bring down Apple lol. Risk = Greater Reward [?]

I wonder if this high demand thats not being met would increase bidding on eBay?

HAHAHAHA I mean FoxConn is the premiere place in Chine I'm sure with the lowest suicide rates than any other company, now I digress.
Back to topic...
I went into my Verizon store on launch day around lunch time and they were already sold out online and in all of the corporate stores. I paid for mine but still had to wait until May 5th before I got it. They claimed 'Free Overnight Shipping," but how is a week overnight, oh well. Im not bragging I'm just sympathizing because I had researched this phone since its existence on a post on gizmodo months back so I understand the anticipation... And you won't be disappointed, especially since this thing is SOOOO close to being rooted I can taste it!
