Hoohaah:
Welp, I would say that 1) I'm glad the approach works in general for HTC phones, but 2) given that you are using a Sense and not an Incredible, there is very little I can advise you to do. If I were you I would go into a Verizon store, complain that you did an update and now the phone won't start. It can't be considered your fault because all you were trying to do is get your phone to update, which is what your phone was trying to do. Good luck.

My phone IS an Incredible, just the GUI home page for that is HTC_Sense program, which was constantly crashing after the update. I was able to use some other app managers to use the phone, but not the home screen. I did take it to Verizon, and after an hour of working with it they wiped it back to factory mode. So I lost 2 years of text messages, all my apps, etc. Since then I have re-synched my contacts and calendar from MS Exchange, and reloaded most of the apps. The texts are gone, but I got a new SMS backup app to prevent that for the future. A very painful 3-day ordeal to get the update (4.08.605.2).

Sorry, misunderstood. What you were saying is clear now. I'm definitely sorry that the update resulted in that experience; my best guess is that the HTC Sense libraries got corrupted somehow in your phone, and the only way to fix that was probably the factory update. So it's a crap solution at best, but you can probably look at it from the perspective of "had to do it eventually, glad I got it over with." Hopefully it won't, but if anything else goes wrong now that you've rebuilt your configuration, it's probably time to look at new phones. Best of luck.

You say "Press and hold Power, choose Restart Option" ... here is my problem. I am not offered that option. Only Power Off is offered, plus Airplane mode, etc. Now what do I do?

The software update to 4.08.605.2 is for the Android Version 2.3.4 . It appears that you still have Android Version 2.2 which you can
tell because the menu you're using is for the older version. Hopefully, someone here can tell you how to get Android Version 2.3.4
(Gingerbread) When you get that, you can then get the software update ot 4.08.605.2.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time and spelling everything out for us not so technical people. After several months of wondering what was wrong with my phone, I finally started searching the internet and found that I wasn't the only one. I had to try your steps a few times and it wouldn't let me download until I had 625MB of free space.
Thanks!

Wow. that worked!
Thank you very much for taking the time to detail the steps/solution.

I am going to add one last note to this thread. I followed the instructions above and after wiping the cache (which was the key) I have been thrilled with my Droid all over again...like when I first bought it. My main issue was getting the message that nothing could be saved to my SD card - and this happened every time an app updated. The message is now gone. One last thank you to Novacom for the very clear instructions and the assistance. This forum rocks.

Yeah. No.
Still no luck for me, even after trying these steps, and all those referenced in "Second GB Update/Patch Won't Reboot Issue - SOLVED!" countless times.
In the first post, it says
8. Upon successfully downloading the update, select install. If you performed the reset of the phone (STEP 2 above) correctly, then the phone WILL reboot after counting down. Congratulations! The update should now automatically install.
Well, I did perform the reset correctly, and the phone did not reboot after counting down. And according to Titanium Backup Pro, I have more than 700MB of free internal storage.
Am I not holding my mouth right?

Well, if you did the reset correctly and the phone still won't reboot, I don't know what to tell you. You are the first person on all the forums I scoured to build these instructions that have said that the reset doesn't fix the install issue. I suppose one thing to try is to delete all of your text messages; my wife's phone started reporting low space again and she had to do that to get it working again. Given that you have an estimate of 700MB free of internal space, I doubt it's that though. You are probably simply in possession of a bad phone; best course of action is probably to get a new one.
