You are pointing your finger in the wrong direction.
This screw-up is not HTC's; it is VZW's.
If you have S-Off and are rooted, you can install a rooted version of the OTA software, instead of accepting the OTA release itself:

Ok, luckily I haven't upgraded anything. I am rooted, but that's all I did (not sure if I did S-off or not...how do I check?). Something told me to hold off.
'Course, I have that application cache problem too
.
I'm currently at 2.2
The update icons appears, though I don't want to even try it. What should I do at the moment?
Thanks

OK, I've tried everything to get 4.08 but to avail. I'm stuck with 4.06 and my market is for Sprint even though I'm on Verizon...maybe someday I'll get up to date but, alas, not today.

I've been having a bit of trouble, like people I see posting here. This solution WORKED for my phone:

Well, they appear to have yanked it a couple times. Indeed, for the good part of yesterday, it wasn't bothering me to upgrade. Now it is again. I haven't checked to see which version it was offering. Has HTC/Verizon fix it yet, or is it just the same buggy version?

I got it yesterday; it actually (finally) upgraded me directly from Froyo to the 4.08.605.2 update. I did the Recovery Mode/Wipe Cache procedure before doing the upgrade, and it worked without a hitch. No issues with the SD card apps or anything like that. Happy so far!

Root and be happy with Froyo is the best solution in my opinion

It's like taking a Windows 95 machine and suddenly upgrading it to Windows 7. It's going to need a lot of tweaks and new code to work right.
Good point above. I hope HTC comes out with an inhanced/improved version of the Incredible in a year when my 2 year contract is up. Does VZ still have a 'free every 2 years' deal or will I get hit up bad for a newer phone?
200+ apps in mine, enjoying it lots.
Low battery life and an occasional choke where I have to remove the battery are my only gripes.

I was wondering, on 1/9/12 I updated OTA, and got Software #: 5.10.605.9, Baseband version: 20.32W.30.0813U_1.09.01.1111,
Build #: 5.10.605.9 CL200710 release -keys. What is this? It's not the #'s listed in the announcement from VZW.

As a PS, on the Software Information screen it shows: Android Version: 2.3.4, HTC Sense version: 2.1, Software number: 5.10.605.9. Again, what did I get?
