msg quirks

Im having issues with messaging. Many times when I click on a contact then click send msg, it will flash a screen of a thread of another msg to another person then flash back to "new message" and I have to select the person all over again. If I dont catch that its done that and just type my msg assuming its going where I want...well it wont. It goes to the other person. This may be connected to another issue where when someone sends me a pic, and I touch screen to reply...well who knows where the reply will be sent. The only way I have found to be sure a reply goes where I want after a pic is to delete any and all msgs that are on phone, select individual and start from scratch. Sometimes these issues are really frustrating. Someone always gets the wrong msg. I dont always catch it until I touch send where it shows my msg went to the person I want on the msg log, but underneath it shows where it really went and on the date side of the log its says "12/31/69"????? Not a time, or yesterday, or date, 12/31/69. any help appreciated.
