How can I stop new textmessages from being displayed at the top of my home screen.
I do not like that incoming text messages are visible at the top of my home screen. I would like to disable this feature but have not figured out how to do it. I keep my phone password locked but my new messages show up at the top of the screen and can be read even when the phone is locked. How can I can change this?

You could turn notifications off but it wouldn't tell you when you receive a message... If you use an sms app like Go SMS you can turn on a "privacy mode" which does exactly what you are describing. It will notify you but not show the message content.

Some people, myself included, have had issues with Go SMS. I use Handsent SMS, and it also has the privacy feature, and you can take it farther. Here's the set up;
>Download and install, of course
>Disable notifications in the stock SMS. Just uncheck all boxes. You'll want to do this anyway because you'll get double notifications otherwise.
>In Handsent press menu>settings>notification settings and uncheck notifications. This will stop messages from being displayed in the notification bar at the top.
For more privacy, say you don't want messages to display at all until you are ready to look at them at times when the phone is unlocked, you can adjust your popup settings.
For more privacy then either of these;
>menu>settings>handsent services Set up an account it's free and allows you to make certian contacts private. They won't appear in your conversations list at all. This can also be set up to require a password to access these contact conversation.
>menu>settings>handsent services>Privacy box Add your contacts
Later to access your Privacy box;
>menu>settings>more>privacy box and password if set up that way.
Other settings include pass code protecting the app so one would need a pattern code like the lock on the phone or a digit code like an atm.
