need help w/ caller id incoming calls

newbie question -- my list of contacts transferred onto my phone, however, when an incoming call comes in, the screen shows "unknown" and then the number. if the person's name and number are already in my list of people, why doesn't the name show up that is associated with that number? do i have to download an app for that??? also, if i should decide that i want the voice caller id, which app do you recommend? there seems to be dozens of them...

If the number isn't in the phone as a 1, area code and number it wont show as your contact when they call.

Try putting a 1 then area code and have them call you to see if that is your issue.

Since cell phones don't require a '1' before dialing, why in the world would we enter our contact numbers with one?

Yeah, far be it from me to contradict a super moderator, but I don't think you need the "1". Area code yes.

Does it really matter? Probably not. Does the number show up with the 1 when someone calls? It does on my phone. Whether or not it does on yours I don't know. If you like try the area code and phone number. It may work fine. If it doesn't then try adding the 1.

The older phones used to be able to put just the 7 digit number and distinguish in the phone book but now they need the area code as well. It started about the same time phones stopped having internal clocks, though I don't believe they are related, just coincidental.
Me personally,I find the voice announce very annoying after about the third call or text.

I'm having the same problem. Doesn't matter if there is a "1" or not. Pictures don't come up and callers from my people don't show up. I did notice that my wife's Facebook picture comes up when she calls me...Not sure why

I also have a question about the Caller id. I have my contact list set up with the area code and hyphens between the numbers(555-555-5555) even when some contacts call me my DINC won't ID the caller is shows the number(5555555555) with out the name even though the number is in my phone it wont show up on some numbers but other numbers are fine. my phone is not rooted. thanks all
