Help! Can't get this Incredible to "tell" me when I get new mail.

I have a gmail account and only use it for my geocaching. I have set geocaching to send notification of any new caches just to my gmail account. However, I cannot get the Incredible to audibly notify me when new emails come in. Suggestions, please.

    Try this...
    • Open the app drawer
    • Select the "GMail" app
    • press the menu radio button at the bottom of the phone
    • select "settings"
    • scroll down to the notification options
    • Make sure "Email notifications" is checked
    • press the "select ringtone"
    • select your notification sound then press "ok"

Hey, welcome fellow cacher. I've been playing for over 10 years.
I don't know about you, but I get my emails from Geocaching.com pretty late, but I also don't get new cache notifications, so I don't know when those are delivered.
    1. Check the last emial you got and see what the time was. If it was late or over night, Check your gmail rules and be sure you don't have one set up to silence notifications after like 9 or 10 pm. If you do it won't audibly notify you but you should still get the little icon in the status bar. Then you can just adjust the time on it to later or go advanced and set it up to deliver notifications for that sender even with others silenced. I don't use gmail stock app, and I'm pretty sure you can do that with Handcent. Which brings me to...
    2. Try a 3rd party app. Handcent is good and a lot of people like GoSMS. I don't like Go so I can't speak on it but they both offer some good UI aspects. However, if the New Cache emails are like the news letter I'd bet it's your rules.

Let us know what you find. Also try sending yourself an email from one of your other accounts to be sure it's not just GCing.com, and post your findings.

verify that you have Gmail set to Sync.

Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync > (select your gmail account) > (make sure that Sync Gmail is checked)

The simplest thing. I'm gona be mad if that's it... and it wouldn't even matter what the frequency is if it isn't on.
