"Generic Network failure"... have tried lots of "solutions", none work. Help!
My wife tried to send me an mms today. Got the notification it had arrived but couldn't download anything ("generic network failure"). Tried sending her a pic (deliberately picked small file) and got a notification "unable to send message" ("generic network failure") Text messages appear to go through without a hitch. I've read probably 20 postings about this problem. It's clear that lots of people have had it but none of the 10 or so different solutions given have worked for me (including pulling the battery and booting in "safe" mode to check to see if it was a 3rd party app causing the problem.)
A few posts said that they'd finally resorted to a full reset and that it had fixed the problem... others said it hadn't. Before I try the hard reset I'm wondering if anyone has figured out what it is and how to deal with it.

are you connecting to towers okay? Or is it frantically looking for towers?
Are you using the stock SMS app or a 3rd party app like handcent?

Its definitely a problem with verizon......since pictures are sent over 3G, you cannot send or receive picture messages while on the phone either. bummer!

hmm... strange... I can get both SMS and MMS during a call... in fact it scares the crap out of me when my phone vibrates in the middle of a call indicating a new message...

As a life long paying member of the "my reception sucks at home but nobody else even covers my area" I can attest to IT IS the network.. it sees the sender has gotten the mms, the receiver has gotten the mms and it's gone. The receiver didn't really get it because of a disconnect in the evdo but it got far enough to trigger the received notification. I get it often and the only true solution is ask them to send it again.I OFTEN get the file but not all of it and it will not open
I just use email as much as possible since it works with wifi when sending.
You can email to Verizon customers phones by using their 10digit#@vzwpix.com but the file has to be 500KB or smaller.
With the final tweaks to launch lte going on it's rampant over the entire network right now

I went to the Verizon forum to see if I could get some info. Verizon claims it's not them and gives a whole bunch of stuff to set and reset (including a hard reset if nothing else works) these are all things I've read elsewhere (including in posts by the HTC people), none of which work. Most posts say the hard reset didn't work either. Is Verizon just trying to dodge the problem?

Yes.
It is the network
Have you asked 611 tech support to make sure your "national access " is working ok ? Mine got turned off in the system every month on new cycle start day for 6 months once , making mms not work until a call and them clicking some buttons on their end. They never admitted it was their fault, just fixed it until it finally stopped. Since the Alltel assimilation my signal was weak but constant but they turned the Alltel towers off so now my problem is disconnections of the network. I found out by using my desktop to send mms to the phone and trial/error until I nailed it down.
Verizon says I'm wrong but if I get no disconnect mid message it comes thru but if it disconnects and I try to get it it's gone at vzwpix and my phone

Does anyone know if after said 'final tweaks' happen the problem will go away? I have been having the Generic Network failure for about two to three weeks now and most of the people I would send a pic to are not on Verizon.

Did you ask if your national access is ok? That is what allows you to send and receive mms among other things
611, tech support not just whoever answers the phone
Do it from another phone in case they need to run tests with you on your Inc.
A forum cannot run the tests, put in a trouble ticket, check your account settings , etc
