What goes away when you do a reset?
I imagine this post has happened before but I couldn't find it. Can anyone tell me exactly what one loses when doing a reset? I have multiple gmail accounts (one from work on google apps) and am having all sorts of problems with getting contacts to sync properly, even after clearing contact storage and the sync manager. To save continued frustration I've decided to consolidate everything into one account but can't delete the other one from my droid unless I do a reset. Am I going to lose all the 3rd party apps I've downloaded?

Everything goes away except your SD Card. It will be just like the day your received it.

I just helped a friend with a brand new Droid 2 today with his contacts. What a nightmare. On it he did a factory reset and it deleted everything BUT his contacts and linked them all together after the reset making that much more of a tangled mess.
He bought it in a corporate store and they set up nothing, including his Gmail and contacts from his other Verizon phone

All the preceding is true, but...
You can minimize the pain by setting up an AppBrain account. Reloading your apps is much easier that way.
AppBrain also allows you to save a text list of all your apps - a handy thing to have in any case.
Astro allows you save/restore apps but if you use it they won't be updated in the future.
You will lose all your SMS messages; there's an app to save them. (SMS Backup and Restore)
You will lose any saved scenes. Take notes on your preferred setups.
Your Google data should be fine.
I'd move all my apps back to the phone from the SD card because I don't know if you'd have any orphaned data.
If you have saved ringtones, notifications, etc in emmc move them to the sd card.
Check the location of photos and music. Save them.
I'm sure that there are more things that will bite you but nothing lethal.
When I did it losing my scenes was the only thing that took me by surprise.
