    Boot Loops on unrooted dinc

As the title suggests, my unrooted phone randomly bootloops until I'm nauseous.

    Baseband 2.15.00.07.28
    Kernel 2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1

The loops will initiate sometimes while idle, other times while I'm texting, making notes, playing games, etc. The only cure I've found so far is to take the battery out for a while (until phone feels cool), re-insert, and try again. This works, I'd say, 50% of the time.

Last night after "curing" the bootloop, I lost all network connections and was given a message "failure to authenticate;" this is the second time this has happened in less than 3 weeks.

So far VW has fixed the authentication problems both times through phone support, but the bootloop problem persists ("DROID....DROID...DROID..." STFU already!).

This morning, VW tech suggested I bring the phone in to update to the new software v3.2...something. Has anyone heard of this new software update yet? I figure my options are limited and I'll probably try it this afternoon anyway.

Anyone that has similar experiences or any suggestions, please chime in!

How old is the phone? If you're unrooted and having these problems I would call or go to a store and get a replacement. Not often you hear of a unrooted phone with bootloops.

Sucking it up and trying factory reset now. I got the phone back in June. It's been acting funny otherwise, forgetting contacts and force-closing all kinda of apps and widgets (factory HTC-installed, nonetheless). Will update later today on whether reset is making a difference or not. Thanks for the attentiveness.

What software update was she suggesting you try? The tech said you could bring the phone in to the store and they would update it today (or in the future)?

The tech suggested I go to the store today and try a software update version 3.2.... I can't remember the numbers after that. The reason it stuck in my head was because she said "3.2" and I thought to myself, "3.2? I just updated to 2.2?"

I believe he is refering to the build number. The android 2.2 or foryo is build number 3.21xxxx

Hmm, so VZW is referring to updating a phone already running Froyo to Froyo? Wouldn't put it past them. Is it at all possible they were referring to Froyo 2.3.13? I've seen that floating around other sites with reference to Moto Droids but haven't figured out if it's legit, vaporware, and/or ready for the DInc. Would think not on the last option (if it's legit) because HTC hasn't announced anything about it/ integration with Sense. Just throwing it out there for discussion.

EDIT: just looked it up and it was 2.3.13, not 15. Which still doesn't make much sense to me since I thought Gingerbread was supposed to be Android 2.3 (instead of 3.0)

Not degrade the tech guys but its there job not hobby like us. There are some that don't really know what they are doing. So I could easily see them just trying to rerun the update.

Scooby, let us know what they do actually try at the store. I'm interested to find out. If I had to bet, my money would be on them deciding to replace your phone altogether. Seems to be pretty standard operating procedure when there's something that can't be easily solved.
