This has been a pretty consistent issue for me. Why when I check the battery use details, does it tell me that 76% of the usage is Maps. I rarely have the GPS on. Is this the location function running all the time? Anyway to modify this setting?

I have never seen maps as being that high. The battery usage is a percent of total usage. So....if you have used only 10% of your battery and you then open maps for brief moment, it will show an extremely high percentage of use. Basically...if you still had 90% of your battery left and it showed maps as using 76%, that actually means 76% of the 10% used. I hope I kind of made sense? When a batter still has a bunch of juice left, the app use percentage does not really mean a whole lot. Now, if you are consistently seeing a 76% use by maps and your battery is below 20% left before your phone goes dead, then something is going on.
Is it showing all the time?
Thanks MJS31. I stopped into a Verizon store, as I was not finding what I was looking for on the net. Guy played around with it, and we both determined that my phone was set to always use the wireless network and maps to update my location no matter where I am. So turned off the "use wireless network" option in settings / location. Not sure if this is my fix or not, but I am recharging the phone so that I can have a clean starting point to see if this was the issue. Makes sense, but you never know. My only other thought would be some other app like Places or something that is constantly pulling for my current location, and not using GPS.
