Calendar notifications

I'm using an Incredible and syncing my calendar with HTC Sync to my Outlook calendar on my PC. My problem is with the reminders. If I turn the alerts and notifications on, I get a reminder for every event regardless of whether the specific event has a reminder set or not. On the "Agenda" list, I clearly see the little bell icon on only those events that have reminders set but the phone doesn't seem to care. It will chime on every event. Any ideas?
