Incredible Randomly Sending Old Text Messages Unintentionally and Automatically
So here's the problem:
I bought a droid incredible and had all my info (including old texts) transferred from my old phone onto this new phone. I bring it home and that very same night, I am just checking it out and I remove the battery. The second I place the battery back into the phone, it automatically begins sending out old text messages that I had sent to people a long time ago. Some of the texts are ones that I sent a couple days ago, a couple months ago, and all random. The only reason I knew this was happening was because suddenly people began texting and calling me back asking me what the hell I was sending them all these strange messages that didn't make any sense. My phone sent some people about 15 old texts from months ago, and some people only received one or two.
I immediately shut off the phone and took it back to Verizon where they completely re-set the phone and re-activated it. Worked fine for a few weeks and then I actually had to get the phone replaced due to an unrelated issue (the speaker broke).
I got yet another droid incredible and this time I did not have anything transferred onto the phone. No settings, texts or anything. Just my plain old droid incredible starting from scratch. I have had this new phone for about 4 weeks with no problems. Today my droid's battery ran down to nothing and so I had to start it back up. The second that it started back up, guess what? It started doing exactly the same thing again!!! I suddenly start getting all these texts and phone calls from people telling me that my phone is sending them old texts once again! What the hell is going on here!?!?
This time I am particularly angry because first of all: this is a replacement phone! This is the second droid incredible phone that I have had with this problem! After searching all the forums online, I can't seem to be able to find anyone else that has had the same or similar happen to them.
Second: this time it began sending out texts at 2AM to all my friends, co-workers, my-boss, you name it! I mean, I am already on thin-ice with my boss and the last thing I need is to have my phone texting him at 2AM with some ransom texts!
Can anybody offer some advice? I really like this phone, except for this one incredibly strange and terrible problem! What can I do? Has anyone ever heard of this happening before?

Not sure if this is possible, but you might want to ask Verizon Customer Service to completely wash your history of text messages from their server. For some reason, resetting your phone triggers the resending of your old texts. If VZW is able to do such a thing, it will eliminate this issue.
Maybe they too can offer you possible solutions since its not a User error, although your phone could trigger it, but its still not a user error (especially with your phone replaced).
Why do ppl call our phones, "Dinc?" Makes it sound like a puny crappy phone or a sound effect when you flick something
You have Android now. Stop whining and complaining that iphone was easy/better... why the hell did you switch for?
If youre going to change phones, be sure you're able to accept "CHANGE" and yes thats a change in how things are done. Its plain and simple
Btw, have a nifty day! (^_^)
Now... wheres my beer???

Ok, so now that I have searched all morning for this issue to make sure that I am not asking something that has been asked and answered. It looks like there are two of us that are having this issue.
Every time I reboot, it re-sends old texts. Some of them are ones that have been copied to "Draft", even though they already sent, I am just to quick on hitting the "Home" button after hitting "Send". (I should not have to wait for the phone to send a file, it should be able to handle this in the back ground.) But others have just be retransmits of older texts.
From what I can tell, it is only going to the last couple of people that I have texted, not a large number. But, it is stupid. Why are they even being resent. Is there somewhere on the phone that some texts are queued up, and after a reboot, the phone batches that queue?
I cannot believe that only two of us are having this issue, or is it b/c so few people are having to reboot that noone has noticed?
Not Rooted, and just got the last OTA last night. When the reboot happened, my buddy and my girlfriend had their phones blow up, so it is not resolved in the latest release.
Thanks in advance.

I had this problem the 1st week that I got my HTC Incredible and it started when I did *228 on it. There were about 60 text messages sent to about 12 of my friends, all within 30 seconds, and they were old text messages that I have sent them within the last 2 years. I called Verizon and they couldn't find anything wrong with my account. And then we did another *228 while I was on the phone with the tech. They also credited my account since I did not have texting on my plan then. I have not had that problem since then.

Tweebee, have you had this issue since you rooted?
It could be that the issue is within the base Verizon Inc Load, and I have just been looking for a subtle additional reason to root. This could be the one.

The app for whatever reason is seeing your texts as failed and sending them again.
I have a friend that has a droid1 with chomp and stock. The chomp saves them and the stock saves them but for whatever reason the stock is occasionally seeing the ones sent from chomp and dumping his whole sent file again. I don't know what rom he is using but it started right after he rooted.
I was the recipient of about a months worth of texts early one morning, I have his text tone as the Droid power up sound, it woke me up when it started re droiding
and the lock sound kept going off with the popup from handcent, I thought my phone was freaking dying a very noisy death like my old LG330s used to do. The next morning he sent an apology text. He said all his texts sent to everyone. Once I saw my Inc wasn't committing suicide I found it humorous.

I still have no explanation for what happened with my droid (refer to my first post in this thread). Its been a few months and so far I have not had this problem spring back up yet. I think it is extremely unlikely that it was a malfunction of my phone simply because the problem also happened after I got a replacement incredible.
This is going to sound crazy, but I personally think that the government monitors my text messages (patriot act), and so Verizon's network is programmed to send all of my text not only to the contacts in my phone, but the Verizon system also sends a duplicate text to some government agency somewhere. I spend a lot of my free time working on various social activism projects, and I do a lot of ranting and raving about the injustice that our federal government imposes on us (mostly under the Bush administration), and so I have always assumed that they are monitoring my phone very closely. I think they have a glitch in their system that causes Verizon's servers to send out duplicate texts to my contacts, instead of to the government servers. I have no way to prove this obviously, but it is a FACT that somewhere within the bowels of the US government, there is a room full of people that spend all day, every day sitting at computer and listening in on people's conversations. We do not live in a free country.
