memory available
i have atk and when i first kill things at startup it has 270M memory available as the day goes on it goes lower and lower toward the end of the day it has about 160M memory available is there a way to know why it is doing this i mean even when i kill everything memory stays low wth? what i am asking is, is this normal? is there somewhere in the settings i can see exactly how much memory is available?

First off drop the task killer. Android OS does not need a task killer. It manages the memory and allocates it behind the scenes.

memory gets used up as the day or days go on. apps load things into memory to make them faster. i do a reboot every few days to keep things fresh. not really needed, but it doesn't hurt.
also, i'll agree about the task killer. ditch it and get an app like system panel, and kill things only when you need to, not just for the hell of it.

Oh boy a task killer debate. There are many opinions on this, so take what everyone says to you with a grain of salt.
I only use task killer to kill apps that kill my battery in the back ground, like cnet scan shop as example. Just because u only xxx memory doesn't mean you need to kill everything. I just looked at mine and I have 38mb of mem available, that's ok because when i need more memory android will kill apps on its own for me.

You just proved our whole point about why you DON'T need a Task Killer with that little sentence i put in red
You don't need to kill any apps as Android will do that for you.

But did u read my sentence at the beginning? personally as an example when i use cnet scanshop and just close it. It will use half my battery in the background... So I need the task killer for that. Otherwise their useless... Google maps is a background battery killer too I have to kill

If they arent using CPU then they arent really wasting any battery life. They don't function in the background, they are just idle until you start them up again.

Whoever was the first dev to make a task killer should be shot on site. U dont need 1 for anything! It was just made by people who didn't understand the google OS. If it was necessary im sure google or htc would have released there own in the market

everybody download System Panel from the market. let it run in the background. hell, let it do the live monitoring for a day. this app is very powerful. trust me you'll get a better idea of what is going on.

i'm sorry i should emphasize my gf has a inc as well and hers constantly has 240M+ available without shutting it down or rebooting, my question was more oriented as to if i should be worried about it being a phone defect or not?
