Bottom Home, Menu, Back and Search backlights don't turn on

Hi,
Just received a new Droid Incredible 1 from an Ebay dealer. Phone really does appear to be new. Everything works OK, but the Home, menu, back and search buttons don't light up. I saw them light up once during power up, but not since.

Is there a setting for this? I checked the "display" menu and didn't see anything that applied.

There is a light sensor on the phone. Those lights only turn on in low lighting. Take the phone into a darker room and try to use the phone, the lights should come on. If they don't then the phone might be defective.
