Car kit mode problems

I am having a few problems in car kit mode, using the car dock that I bought from Verizon.

1. Phone does not switch automatically to car kit mode when inserted into the car dock. I have checked the relevant checkbox under settings that should make this happen - but it doesn't.

2. I found that the device interface does not respond very well when docked in the car kit. Finger presses do not register very well.

For responsiveness, there is an issue when using a window mounted card dock or laying the phone on Styrofoam. This supposedly fixed on newer builds. For us not so lucky folks, using the car charger or a second finger on the back or side of device will allow the screen to respond correctly.

Not sure about the first problem.

1. As far as i have seen the phone wont switch to car mode automatically with the Incredible. It doesn't have magnets to switch modes like the Motorola Droid did.

2. Plug in your car charger while its in the dock and that should be problem solved.

Plugging the car charger in does not bring up the car kit automatically either.

Its not supposed to. Theres no way a charger can initiate car dock mode. The charger suggestion i made was to cure your non responsive screen when in the car dock.

Right now you just got to put it into car dock mode manually.

I just went ahead and added the car panel shortcut on my main homescreen.

I'm having the exact same issues with car mode. I have the same dock and it will not go into car mode. How do I manually put the phone in car mode? I read the manual but I dont see a section that explains that. Is anyone else having this same problems with the incredible?

Best I can recommend is to keep the icon for the car panel on the main screen to quick access. It will not initiate automatically. Further, it is only set for vertical orientation on the menu itself. Once you go to the map, you can rotate horizontal. But the menu does NOT have a horizontal version.
