Unusable???
Happy New Year. I just got a pre-owned, refirbed Incredible from Cowboom yesterday. I spent some time making sure everything worked well before calling Verizon to activate it. When I did, they informed me they couldn't set up my phone on my existing account because the Incredible is still tied to its former number and account.
I'm somewhat savvy, but I can't find anything definitive online that rooting or any other process will fix this problem. Cowboom has already given me an RMA to send it back, but since they're consignment...I might not find the deal again. I'd like to keep the phone.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Rooting has nothing to do with activation.
Does the following URL help?

Thanks for the response. When I went through the process described in your link, Verizon told me the phone is still attached to its former account and they can't undo that without talking to the owner. I just need to know if there's a software change that can be made to free the phone from its previous owner.

So who is supposed to talk to the former owner? You? Verizon? Cowboom?

There is not on the phone end. The carrier uses a unique ID number for registration the only thing you can do to activate that phone is find the previous owner. They either need to cancel his or her line its attached to or activate a new phone on said line.
That said I would return the phone for another
