HTC Incredible Update Issues
My HTC Incredible installed a software update today (4.08.605.2), which seems to have started causing problems from what I've noticed. Apps load a lot slower (Pandora takes ~2min to start, up from 10sec) and I'm a little annoyed by not having internet on/off option while holding down the power button.
I'm sure there's a way to add a shortcut for the 3G thing, but the app delay bothers me a little. Is there any way to revert to a previous version without rooting my phone? It's on 2.3.4 now, unsure on what version beforehand, or the software number. Bought it in December of '10, and it hasn't updated until today. I've tried googling and haven't found any information other than how to load a rom with rooting. If it's impossible to do it myself, would a verizon employee be able to? I'm not really afraid to root it, but I'd like to know my other options prior to doing so.

Yeah, the sad thing is that if you want to revert, root is your only option. It's not exactly the same thing but you can get back some of the functionality of holding the power button and having the menu pop up, but HTC has widgets built in that offer some of the features your missing. Add widget>Power Control>Choose your poison. Alternatively you may want to look at free power widget, there's a paid version that's ad free, but the ads aren't that bad. It offers a lot of customizations and a lot more options than the HTC power selections.
I feel your pain with the update (can't really call it an up grade), and wish I had my old 2.2 phone back. GL

Same here, the slower performance without any noticeable benefit is a pisser, especially with all the problems with 4.06 leaves me with the feeling that this is just a bug ridden version. I never wanted to root my phone before because of the concerns of not getting updates, but if this is what updates are about, show me the root baby.... so can I root my phone and get the previous version back? if so anyone have a recommendation on a link to point me in the right direction.
I'm do for an update and the 4g with the unlimited data plan i have definitely is of interest to me. However I get the feeling that I am just a gullible farm animal marching to the slaughter house if I get a new phone because of this update.

For what it's worth, I never got 4.06, but 4.08 is noticeably faster for me than the pre-Gingerbread versions. Hopefully if/when you get that update, you'll find it works better.

I haven't noticed the slowness, but I have noticed the issue that Macedawg has just posted a new thread about, and that is the HTC screen over and over. Every time I spend more than a few minutes browsing and close out I'll get it, and occasionally the app will spontaneously close and splash the screen. What I've noticed that is really bothering is that using the camera now causes the phone to reboot. I don't know if the camcorder does as well, but this is highly annoying. If I take more than one picture the phone just restarts. It saves the picture but the restarts are murder waiting for the phone to boot up.

That's weird how the same update is causing different problems.
I'm not having any of them but when I powered off my phone Sunday night and powered it on Monday morning my Sense launcher had defaulted to being the one I use and Go was unchecked. That and a SUPER super bright screen on auto seem to be my only bugs so far.

I'm having the same problems with the camera freezing then resetting the phone. Did it with my "new" Dinc purchased last December. Verizon sent me a refurb, and that one did the same, both after the update 2.3.4 build 4.0.8. I've got a 2nd refurb coming in the mail today and we'll see. I'm considering not updated the OS (the last refurb came 2.2, so I'm guessing this one will too).

yep, me too. the camera freezes the phone after one or two pictures, and restarts the phone. WHY, HTC, WHY??!!?!

Do you have fast boot enabled or disabled? If enabled, try disable it, power down the phone, turn it back on and see if that helps.
