Formatting SD card to FAT32
On a Windows machine:
1. Use an SD card adapter or connect your phone to your computer as a disk drive.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Copy the contents of your card to a folder on your computer so you do not lose files.
4. Right click on your SD card and choose format.
5. Select FAT32 as the file system and hit start.
6. After the card is done formatting, move the files from your old SD card onto the new one.
7. Congratulations- you're done!
On a Mac (thanks to razor and tweebee for these directions!):
1. Plug your phone into your Mac using the USB cable.
2. On the phone, choose to mount it as "Disk Drive" as the connection type.
3. In the Finder window's side bar, under the Places category, click "Applications".
4. Click the Utilities menu then double-click on "Disk Utility".
5. Within the Disk Utility window, select your SD card in the left column.
6. Click the button called "Erase" on the radio buttons.
7. On the "Volume Format" button, select MS-DOS as the format you want.
8. Click "Erase"... it will warn you that doing this will permanently erase all the files... click the "Erase" button.
9. All done, open a soda and celebrate.

Probably. That's what I did, bought a new card from Costco, had the phone do its thing and never looked back. But a lot of people use old SD cards so they need to transfer everything off the card to their computer first. At that point, may as well do the format and transfer files back all at once. In those cases, I think this tutorial is very useful.

We have case where formatting on the Incredible resulted in SD card with FAT instead of FAT32.
The steps in this tutorial will give a FAT32 card and are better for troubleshooting.
