    Question CPU issues. Overclocking.

I am brand new to rooting. I am running CyanogenMod 6.1 RC 2.

I recently purchased setCPU 2.0.4 and wanted to overclock my cpu. Well to my surprise I went from 900 MHz before ROM install to max 528 MHz. What happened?

I also want to apologize if there was a thread already for this but I just registered and have been trying to learn the site.

    Welcome to the forum!

What settings did you configured in your setCPU? And did you setup and profiles?

I have not done profiles because like I said I am new to this and messing around in areas I do not know bothers me. I just used the slider in the cpu program and set it up all the way to max being 528.

What should I set up a profile to?

Could you provide some more info on what you're currently running? See this sticky, Minimum info needed when asking for help.

Also, have you configured setCPU to autodect? (Menu->Autodetect Speed)

If I remember correctly, Setcpu will only adjust the CPU speed that is dictated by the custom kernel set speed. So if the kernel's max speed is 1 ghz, Setcpu will only go to that highest speed. You need a custom kernel that is overclocked if you want to do better than stock speeds then use Setcpu to adjust speeds.

And being as it sounds like you may be very new to rooting, I urge you not to rush into over clocking. It is debatable how much of a difference you will see. This can cause severe instability in your phone, terrible battery life, overheating issues and a myriad of other problems.

On other words, I would honestly recommend against messing with this at this point.
