Problems rooting an incredible

We have been trying to root our incredible for the last few days, running 2.2, using unrevoked. We are using windows, installed the appropriate drivers and checked to make sure they were there as instructed. We run unrevoked for the incredible and runs through connecting to the phone and rebooting. The last reboot (third i think) the computer screen says "waiting for root" and the phone boots to a normal screen. After waiting and waiting, nothing and no super user app. We have used three different computers. We have the debugger checked, accept unknown sources, and no htc syc on the computer. Can anyone tell us what we may be doing wrong?

You probably accepted the latest OTA. It requires a different rooting process that unrevoked is working on right now. Hang tight for a bit and it should be possible to root post-OTA in the very near future.

What is OTA and would it do any good to restore the phone to factory? Just wondering, this is for my son who is leaving for a military assignment.

OTA= over-the-air update. Verizon released one a week or two ago. After accepting the OTA previous methods to root no longer work but the team behind unrevoked is working on solving the problem now. It doesn't sound like there's anything TO restore- if rooting didn't work then he's still at factory settings so nothing to worry about on that front.

Also, if I root my phone, if I accept the next OTA, will it unroot my phone back to original condition? If so, is there any way to accept the current OTA to do that too? Thanks!

If you root your phone, odds are that subsequent OTAs will fail: they won't install, or do anything at all.

Most of us who have rooted tend not to care about that, because after rooting, we most likely find ourselves happier with one of the many ROMS which can supplant the stock VZW product. Whatever is in an a VZW update (other than VZW bloat) pretty soon shows up in one ROM after the other, as the ROMs' respective developers get "a round tuit".

But what if I want to "reset" my phone before bringing it into a Verizon store? Is there a way to reset back to before root? Thanks for your help!

We have our incredible rooted now and it works great. My son is able to use wireless tether and save $50.00 a month as he is in Texas serving his country. Thanks for all your help!!
