I'm not positive, but I think I saw a Tweet indicating the new unrevoked is about to be dropped. As in, they got it working and about to upload it.

For those unfamiliar, z4root is a market app, and it grants root access while the phone is turned on for normal operation. It can permanently root some phones(its a separate option in the app), but not a DINC. There is likely less risk than most options, considering it does not install a custom recovery or make any permanent changes to the phone. Frankly, if all one wants from root is wireless tethering, using z4root is the way I'd go. You don't get the other benefits of root, but it keeps tampering of the phone to a bare minimum. Obviously though, whatever the user is most comfortable with is the way to go.
Haus, Thank you for your insight. I'll give it another try with the instructions you've provided. For now using wireless tethering is why I want to root phone. Once the new version of Unrevoked is published I'll look into it.
z4root indeed only works temporarily. However, I didn't know that the market wireless tether does not work on DINC. That's good to know. I will give it a try and update everyone.
