Can't boot into recovery
Hi folks,
I'm fairly new to the hacking game, but I've been reading a lot and I'm almost ready to attempt some custom ROMs. For some background, I have an AMOLED Incredible, rooted, currently running the stock 2.2 ROM. I have the paid version of ROM Manager and the most current Clockwork recovery. I'm trying to do an nandroid backup and I'm getting the same results if I try via ROM manager or if I try to boot into recovery. As my phone reboots, I hit the "htc Incredible" white boot screen and get stuck there. I've waited a good 10-15 minutes and nothing. If I pop my battery I can boot my phone normally and all is good, but I just can't seem to get into recovery to do a full nandroid backup.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Go into rom manager and select "flash recovery" after clearing the cache. If it still does not work if you have s-off we can get you an older img to try.

Sorry for the newbie question, but when you say "flash recovery", are you talking about the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" option? I did that just to verify that I have the most current ClockworkMod recovery and that didn't help. I'm also not sure which cache you're suggesting I clear. Can you clarify that point?
Thanks!

Im sorry that I expected you to understand what I am talking about.
First point yes. Second point, go into rom manager click on your menu button and select clear cache. The redo the flash recovery. See if that works.

OK, cleared the cache in ROM Manager, and selected the option to flash ClockworkMod recovery again. It flashed successfully, then I rebooted into HBoot, selected recovery and I still get stuck at the white "htc Incredible". Pull the battery, start up the phone normally and it's fine again. So I'm in the same situation.
Any other suggestions?

Yep. Force it. To do this you need to have your sd card formatted to fat32. Move everything off the sd to your pc and then format it. The dl this file and rename it to PB31IMG. Once you've done all that boot into hboot. The phone should ask you to update. Select yes and it easy from there on out.
Oh also you do have s-off correct? Other wise this will not work.
And now the file to dl and rename.

I think its an older version but don't worry about that for now.

Doug - I'm copying the contents of my SD card to my PC now... it will take a bit to copy 15 gigs worth of crap :-)
Just to clarify, what exactly will flashing this zip file do? Will it restore me to a factory recovery but leave my stock ROM and user data in tack?

I like your style. Glad you asked. Its gonna flash CW recovery again through Hboot. Seeing as how the Rom manager app is not doing it this is a kinda force feeding of the recovery to the device. If after this you still sit and hang at the splash screen, well, lets wait and see.

haha... since I have a perfectly functioning phone at the moment (other than not booting into recovery), I wanted to make sure I wouldn't take a step backwards :-)
I just checked and my SD card is already FAT32, so I'm assuming that means I don't have to do the format? Just copy that file over to the root of my SD card and reboot?
Oh, and sorry I missed your s-off question, but yes, I have s-off. Rooted for sure :-)

Yes now boot into hboot and wait for it to ask if you want to update recovery.
