Someone help me with a simple question before I pull my hair out!!
I have mobile networks turned off. I should be able to turn my WiFi off too shouldn't I? And if I can't someone explain why not? I'm beginning to figure out that I must not be able to. But I have a rom that is having wifi issues and keeps rebooting. I want to turn wifi off long enough to get what I need off it before I install something new.

I was confused by your post until I saw the part about "ROM" .... Since I haven't modified my ROM in any way, perhaps that is the genesis to your question. However, can turn wifi on and off by going to settings-wireless &networks, and unchecking wi-fi.

Right, yeah I used to be able to. But I've tried 3 different ROMs and it's happened to me in 2 different ones. I was just hoping SOMEONE could give me some ideas as to whats going on or if it's normal. I would have posted it in the specific ROM forum, but it doesn't seem to matter...(unless I am using the same kernel in both rroms and the problem is there....)
Thanks for looking at my post anyways. This isn't the first time I've asked this and NOBODY seems to answer.

I'm not sure where you've asked this question before but going through your posts it wasn't here. If this is related to ROMs, the thread belongs in the hacking section, so I am moving it.

If you want no data connection please enable airplane mode.

but doesn't that turn off the ability to get phone calls also? (sorry newbie
)
OK, I googled it cuz I figured duh I should just google that...and yes it does.
So maybe the question is...can I turn off both 3G and Wifi and just have incoming phone calls? Maybe thats just not possible and I was expecting to be able to do that.

Not that I know of. Network connection means 3g.

Ok, so I installed a new rom, and before I found my access point, I turned off wifi. And then I turned off 3g. And they stayed off. Then I had my husband call my phone. And it rang and I answered.
So you should be able to turn off wifi, AND turn off 3g. I just checked to make sure I could turn them back off again...and I can.
So now the question is...and really back to my original question....why , in certain roms, can I not turn off my wifi? when I do turn it off, it pops itself right back on.
An app shouldn't be able to do that , should it? Hijack the wireless settings?
Edit: so I guess I did answer my original question. But now I just need to figure out where or why it's not able to shut off.

I have heard of wifi losing connection but never have heard of it repeatedly trying to reconnect.
