most likely. Cyanogenmod is pretty much the latest and greatest of stock android. But I think you'll be disappointed. In my experience sense isn't all that much different than stock. Just a different launcher and widgets and some other refinements. It behaves pretty much exactly the same otherwise. Try the pinch function on the homescreen to switch between screens and tell that ain't cool. Can't do that on stock android.

Got the Incredible and got frustrated to see how much HTC modified everything. I feel like I have a HTC Phone with a few Android apps. I realize the core is probably still primarily Android. I am curious.
Once the phone gets rooted will this allow me to wipe the phone and just put the Android OS and only the Android OS on the Incredible? I love the hardware so don't want to give it up but some things I came to love about the Droid were things like the photo gallery, the simple car home app and more.

Just curious if this is even possible once rooted.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers!
I would imagine this can/will be done. I loved the Droid and had it since day one, but really like the Sense integration with this phone. The android OS is absolutely the same just some inner twined sense UI items. If you are just looking for the other photo viewer etc, I would bet you can find and install them on this phone. Nothing says you have to use the stock items, although I personally find most of them better than on the Droid. I know this is personal opinion, but many things just make life easier. I actually like the new car home screen better. Continue to work with the sense UI features until rooting takes place...you may end up changing your mind. Right now I am a rooting and ROM fan, but I will probably only root to get titanium backup working and some other tweaks, but will not install a custom ROM that takes sense away. I like it.

    Back to Vanilla Android OS?

    mjs31,

Thanks for the information. I have been giving it a chance. There have been a few things I have learned to deal with and others I still just want the vanilla android OS for. There is a bit more than just the stock applications I would like back but like you suggested I am going to try and give this a shot.

I have only had a total of 3.5 days so we will see. The other thing I should note for everyone is the VZW manager I dealt with when buying my Incredible mentioned (a few times) to the sales lady, "these have to come back in mint condition in order for a return to be complete". So for those just wanting to see if they like the phone or not be very very careful to not scratch, scuff or dent anything on the phone.

If I am able to get the vanilla android OS on the phone then this is my phone for the next few years. Had an iPhone fan ask what it was and made several good comments about it. From the photos leaked I wasn't sure if I was going to like the back but have found it comes in handy to be able to hold onto the phone with one hand.

I don't have the Incredible yet, because no one will buy one for me, but can't you just go into application settings and disable HTC sense? That should get you to the basic Android OS and home screen.

Once the incredible is rooted you should be able to remove the sence ui. If you want a more vanilla android experience try a different home replacement. You can get the Helix launcher 2 from the market and it works pretty well. Once installed you hit the home button and select helix. Once in helix all the widgets from Sence are not an option anymore, they seem to be tied to the Sence UI. If you want to go back just hit home again select SENCE. The Helix laucher is like the NEXUS laucher for those that don't know. It's a little modified from the Nexus though. I'm sure once this is rooted it will be pretty easy to get a 5-7 screen stock laucher app.

    DXtop

what area are you located in? I know here on the west coast verizon is hitting their employees hard with return rates, thus the new restocking fee policy (first it was 35 if you exchanged to different device, but n/a if device was doa or you returned it altogether, now it is 35 with the sole exception being a doa handset that is exchanged for the same device), so I am pretty confident a few scratches or knicks wouldnt prevent an exchange. The manager was trying to make sure you didnt try to return it so thier return rate wasnt affected. I am running dxtop with a black theme and nexus one boot animation and live wallpapers. Love it. Ill post a screen shot here in a minute. It overlays the sense ui and gives it more of a droid-ish feel. runs silky smooth, but only has 5 screens. I combined it with an iPhone icon pack and a windows seven icon pack ( ironic, yes lol). I love this phone!

    Nice looking screen shots.

I live in Kansas City and I think they were trying to do a hard sell me on a cover / case. The sales lady asked me at least 5 times if I wanted a case of which I had to say no each time. Of course she wasn't just trying to sell me a case but rather look after me and not want me to scratch the phone . I got the feeling there was some big incentive to sell a case, cover and / or car charger on that day. I haver never had a sales person hard sell that much for a particular product.

The manager was definitely trying to keep me from returning because after a few things got cleared up on my account he stopped by to see if the sales lady needed any more help. Then made some gesture to her like put a note in his account for returning. I felt like Elaine in the Seinfeld episode where her health file got marked / black listed.

Anyways he and she may keep me from returning it but they lost out on a Jawbone Icon sale. Plus I usually cave within a day or two for accessories but this time I will go to a different store.

Just be cool with me and I will open my pocket book (errr debit card)

I also like many features and it really has not done anything that would stop me from using the regular OS. At least that I can tell.
