So what available memory number is the real deal?

I have ATK (and use it the correct way btw) when I open it, it gives me a number (i'm currently at 112m). After a reboot, it goes up to 240m then slowly starts to drop......

When I open settings and check in the SD Card and phone storage section it says I have 676mb (currently).

Coming from a BBerry i'm very paranoid about these numbers and was use to having to do battery pulls of reboots although the S2 was much better at managing memory. Am I going to have to deal with the same things here with the DI??? I have yet to have it dye or automatically reboot on me, but i've been good about always killing apps before the number drops too low on ATK.

Someone please help to shed some light on what each number means or what it is they are needed for? I was stoked at first to see that huge 700MB number, but now i'm confused

The available memory in ATK is the Ram. the SD card and Phone storage are your SD Card and the built in flash memory. Totally unrelated. Please Please Please for your sanity. just get rid of it and learn to live without. I was the same way with my moto droid. I installed and uninstalled ATK a ton of times.. then finally gave up and left it off and have never looked back. Android is extremely efficient at managing memory.

I appreciate the promp responses guys, but for some reason my phone seems laggy when not using ATK. I only use it to kill apps that don't play nice and want to run in the backround such as the browser and other apps that are not needed nor have widgets or that update frequently.

Back to the memory question.....so what exactly is the RAM memory for and what is the internal flash memory for? Is the RAM memory what the phone uses to make it run and the flash to contain all of the apps? How does it work and what numbers should I be seeing? What numbers do you guys stand at the moment?

There is Ram where the apps are run, There is phone memory where the apps are stored, theres internal storage which acts like a built in SD card but most apps cant see it yet and then SD Card. Believe me the ATK is not needed. Those apps even though they show up are not actually using memory or doing anything. They are there because the OS has determined that they do not need to be unloaded yet or that they are actually needed by another process. Its your paranoia telling you its faster with ATK or there is something wrong with your phone, or one of the apps you have.

I absolutely despised memory leaks in my old blackberry's.

I haven't had to pull the battery at all on the incredible, and it's been weeks. That is something not possible with any blackberry.

Just because you see high RAM usage, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are running out of RAM. Android (and other operating systems) will actually try to keep things in memory to make things better for you. If you happen to need something again, it's better to find it in the RAM than to have to go and fetch it from internal storage. If you want something new, old things will automatically be removed from the RAM. That's how Android is designed. Android will also kill programs for you when it's running out of resources.

But is there such a thing as it slowing down some or is it in my head?

Thanks BBerry for making me soo paranoid about memory issues and having to close everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe me its just paranoia. I went from a storm to the moto droid and struggled with letting go of the task killer for a month or so, but finally did and have never had a problem since. The winmo people have the same problem when switching.

Get rid of the damn task killer. You DO NOT NEED IT AND IT WILL CAUSE MORE ISSUES. Really no need and any lag is in your head or some other issue that a task killer will cover up. Get rid of that low memory bullshit you dealt with on blackberry. Android OS deals with it so just enjoy and let it work for you. We are all not lying to you and many of us like me, are former BB users.
