Question HTC Droid Incredible vs. Overclocked Moto Droid

    Hello everyone,

I just got my moto droid about a week ago now. My 2 years were up so I signed up for another 2 and got my first smartphone. The Incredible was not in stock so I opted for the Droid instead. I can still go back and get the Incredible. I believe they told me I have 30 days, but I'll have to pay a $35 restocking fee if I were to switch phones.

I really like my Droid once I rooted it, customized it and overclocked it. I am currently running it @ 1.1Ghz with Bugless Beast 1.0.

My question is this. For those of you who had an overclocked Droid @ 1Ghz and higher and now own the Incredible, is the speed of the stock incredible really that much better than the Droid at or above 1Ghz???

I really like that fact that the Incredible has 256MB more RAM than the Droid as well and think this will come in handy with future apps and Flash. I'd really like an honest answer because this thread for me will probably be the deal breaker if I will go with the Incredible or not. I've done A LOT of research and find the Incredible much more appealing aesthetically, and I think I could appreciate the 8MP camera is has over the Droid's 5MP which I just don't think is very good at all.

So, for those who have owned an OC'ed Droid and now the Incredible, is the Incredible really that much snappier? Also, are you enjoying the Incredible more than the Droid even though it has not been rooted yet?

I really appreciate any and all input. I'll most likely keep this phone for the next 2 years so it is very important to me.

    Thanks!

Not that this board might be a little biased, but I've seen several reviews here and on DroidForums talking about how comparable the speed is and many are saying that the Incredible is running smoother than the overclocked Droids. One theme that is becoming quite prevalent is there are A LOT of people saying they are coming from rooted Droids and experience with rooting and after having Sense, they have no desire to root. That they are simply that happy with the Sense setup and there aren't enough benefits to root beyond what's there. Of course there are some hardcore that are talking about it, but everyone is at the will of the developers.

Overall, I can only think of a couple of people, literally, that weren't ecstatic with the Incredible and have no intention of going back.

Yes, the inc is better. I still have my overclocked Droid which my wife uses. It is fast, but the Inc just beats it. So much smoother as well.

Part 2: yes, I like the Inc better but am waiting for rooting. As you know, unrooted phones cannot back up app internal data. You can use back up apps in general but the only back up the app and no data that you had. I use the great "Titanium backup" and need it back to get some of my data. Mainly my "Home run 3D" equipment etc. Need to be rooted to use titanium. I find other backup apps useless since it is the same as re-downloading from the market.

I came from a rooted Droid oc'ed anywhere from 1 to 1.25 ghz depending on whether I was on BB or CM. For me, switching to the Inc has been worth it. Went to a Red Sox game and didn't miss a photo op or ask to retake a photo as I used to with the Droid.

What I do miss from the Droid (and my wife loves) is I'm no longer on the daily search for a new or updated ROM or theme or app. But the phone lives up to my needs that I'm not sure if I will root when we have the option (yeah right).

I agree. I probably won't root either ;-) you know that's not possible now that it is in our blood.

I had a Droid running at 1Ghz and it just doesn't compare to the Incredible. The first thing you notice about the Incredible when you get it is that there is a smoothness to it that the Droid just can't touch; it never skips or lags.

my wife has the droid which i rooted for her and pretty much played with since Nov (every night...of course she hated that). it is definitely fast once overclocked, but it cannot beat the how smoooth the dinc is. there's no hesitation whatsoever. i do agree that i probably don't want to root my dinc as I kind'a like this sense ui thing. only reason why i would root is maybe for wifi tether.

overall, i love both phones. its just a preference on physical keyboard. i'm ok with no physical keyboard as the dinc's virtual keyboard is quite good. so i chose the lighteness (by having no extra physical keyboard) of the dinc.

but i'm sure if you go to droidforums, you'll get a diff answer. but most of their argument will be on physical keyboard which is basically the main diff.

Agreed with the prev poster... my wife has the Incredi and I have BB1.0 Bekit 1000 and my wife's Incredi is much faster than mine. I was out about yesterday and with the display at full brightness and my Droid reached my failsafe temp profile on setcpu. Anyhow a rooted Incredi overclock may just do wonders... specially with 2.2.

It has always been the argument of physical kb vs not. Yet, there are some that turned into the same phanatics that Iphone users have. Some on the Droid forums are defending the Moto Droid like it is the only phone. I actually found that sad to slam another android phone like that, but to each his/her own. I still believe the Droid was the break through phone that put the fear in Iphone, but the Incredible improved upon it. I am sure the Shadow and Droid 2 will improve upon our phone. This is a great thing!!!!

I had a moto droid running at 1ghz. It was never as smooth as the Inc is at stock speeds. I picked up the Inc and was immediately faster on the on screen keyboard than i was with the physical keyboard. The physical keyboard on the moto just wasnt that good. I wish someone would grow a brain and ditch the crappy physical keyboard and make one just like the droid with a 1ghz, OLED and Gaming controls instead of the keyboard. The games on android are getting good graphics wise. but they all share one aspect. The controls suck bad.
