This is a discussion on The Truth About Your Battery And Bump Charging within the HTC Incredible General Discussion forums, part of the HTC Incredible Discussion category; Worth a read- Your battery gauge is lying to you (and it's not such a bad thing) - xda-developers...
Wow! That guy really did his homework and a wonderful job explaining that. Is there a way we can make a sticky for that?
OH NOEZ!! T3h b00tl00pz!!
Well it's good to know that battery technology hasn't changed.
When LI first came out I read many reports that said after about 500 "charge cycles"(every time one plugs in or starts a charge regardless of how long ,it's considered a cycle) the battery becomes a paperweight. From reading that article I take it that remains true and so it just doesn't fill completely to compensate. Correct me if I'm wrong ?
I did do a drain to dead the other night for calibration purposes, that article said don't go below 5% though so that's another thing I learned.
Thank you.

Wow...interesting. I always questioned what a bump charge would do to a battery over time. I have only done it once since I don't need it, but good to know what over using it can cause a battery to do much quicker.
I had to go back and read it again. At first I took it as charging normally would be like older days, kill the battery in 500 cycles.
Now I'm not so sure if no bump charge will allow more than 500 charges if I top off during the day.

I don't know if it was this thread (or referenced article) that mentioned how the Incredible's battery gets warm when charging, since the phone draws from the battery even while plugged in (the battery completes the circuit).
I paid attention to this last night, and had it plugged in all night and on, and I didn't notice any unusual battery warmth (it gets warmer with usage).
I have the sedio 3500mah battery and am loving it!

Letting your battery fully drain is GOOD and BAD. It's good because it keeps the battery fully calibrated (voltages and such), but a full charge is bad because of the longevity of high voltage which causes cell degradation, but to be honest, I have never actually used a phone long enough where the battery actually started to lose life from bump charging (having done it almost everyday win my Droid Incredible). It just really depends on whether or not you're willing to buy a new battery after 2 years of abuse. Assuming you're still using that phone.
