Replacing the Digitizer in the Incredible

*No, I'm a failure and did NOT get insurance, terrible idea*

I have nothing bad luck with my Incredible (I'm the dude who jumped into a river with my phone in pocket (it survived!)), but I love this phone and refuse to replace it.

Yesterday while at Best Buy, I bent over with my phone in pocket (and also in a holder) and from what I can make out, my wallet pressed against the screen and destroyed the digitizer (from what I understand). My screen is now completely purple except for the top left corner which is a light purple.

Now first off, is the digitizer my issue? The screen does not appear cracked in any way, ALTHOUGH there is some sort of crack; this crack appears to be UNDER the glass screen and it almost looks like lightning (well now it's just straight purple everywhere.) I also had a white line going up and down the screen but now that's not visible as everything is just purple.

To me it seems the digitizer is just ruined, and for a small fee of $90 I can buy a new one and hopefully replace it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does the digitizer sound like my only issue?

It sounds very doable to take the phone apart and get the digitizer out with the tools, but the part where you put the digitizer back with the front of the phone kind of confuses me. I read somewhere that a person soldered it back... and other places where people use double sided tape. That's where I'm kinda looking for some clarification and if anyone knows if my problem might be worse than what I think or if it's an entirely different issue.

    Thaaanksss

Looking around a little more... sounds like I need a new LCD screen...

...not cheap at all if it's the LCD.

    How much are these screens?

I've found the Digitizer for $90 and an LCD screen for $190

Ouch. Good luck replacing it. Take lots of pix just in case someone else needs to do it too.

Still looking for an answer. Anyone know for sure which it is? :|

Bump in case anyone knows. When I turn the screen on now, it's completely black.

It sounds like it's the LCD not digitizer. I just replaced the digitizer on my Incredible. My screen had several cracks, but the LCD and display worked fine. I used this youtube as a reference:

I found the digitizer new on ebay for $40

how complicated was it to replace the digitizer? the video looks fairly simple, but isn't the digitizer a bit more difficult because it's glued on?
