Update Radio to Newest Version (does NOT require root)
This was just related to me. This is the best link for the easiest way to update the radio on the phone. This adds the Droid visual sequence, wifi hotspot (will have to pay for this one), 720p video and whatever else was supposed to be included on the first OTA that was stopped.
Follow this link for the file and directions. It also covers getting all the way into the phone to set up rooting but all I personally wanted was the radio update at this time, still not comfortable rooting.
Droid Incredible Froyo 2.2 Leaked OTA version
This does NOT involve any rooting whatsoever. Just follow the directions EXACTLY and you should be fine. Mine worked without a problem. Just remember, when yous tart the process and it starts working, DO NOT TOUCH IT! Let it run its course and install all of the software or you run the risk of damaging the phone.
Again, this is specifically targeted at nonroot users like me that do want the newest radio but do not want to root.

This has me worried a little bit as one of the biggest problems ppl are facing is they install the update twice thus bricking their phones. Just wondering if the OTA radio update will cause the same problem as trying to install update twice....????

I was wondering the same thing. I udpated to the newest radio version and then rooted my device and installed Skyraider 2.2. Im wondering when the offical OTA gets released, will the people that updated their radios be able to update there phone to the offical 2.2?

No you will have to downgrade the Hboot. So you'd better feel alright running some terminal commands. And there are newer radios out there so its safe to say the official OTA will not contain a 2.05 radio.
Edit: To me that came off a little negative. There are some great guides out the on how to downgrade the Hboot, but they do require work in the terminal. With these guides if you have the SDK (and some knowledge on how it works) and can copy and paste you should be good to go.

Doug, are you saying when the official OTA rolls out, the radio update I have listed above will require the downgrade before it can go through? Or file modifications? I just wanted to make sure.

Well nothing is set in stone but more then likely yes. Unless you root and get s-off. With s-off you can flash radios very easily. Unlike now where you have to trick the Hboot.
You have to understand you are messing with leaked stuff that Big Red doesn't expect you to have. When OTA come through it'll check you current setup and say whoa what is this garbage.. Abort abort. It'll be looking for a much older baseband.
Now that is a "to my knowledge". Maybe you'll be able to upgrade with no issues. I'm simply saying messing with leaked radios is not something you should do all willy nilly. Know the repercussions and arm yourself with knowledge in case it is needed to go back.

Gotcha, thanks for the heads up. I'll also do some checking on my end and see if I can get some confirmation on the radio issue. If I find out something new, I'll post up immediately.

Sounds good to me. The more knowledge the better.

Most definitely.

Everyone on XDA is telling me that if it can be installed on a non-rooted device that we are looking at an official here. Take that fwiw, don't hold me responsible (I'm not a developer and don't pretend to be), do some research on XDA (great companion to this site) and decide for yourself, just sharing what other developers have told me.
