Comparison to Droid X: Memory signal reception
I recently purchased a Motorola Droid X with the intention of comparing it to my HTC Incredible. Though I found the Droid X to be a nice phone I decided to stick with the HTC Incredible. I figured I would post it here thinking someone else might be looking for the same information I was.
1. I found that the amount of free memory on the Droid X was consistently about 50 MB lower than on the HTC Incredible. Even though the Incredible was running sense UI my available memory seems to hover between 190 MB and 220 MB. Running the same apps on the Droid X found my memory around 130 to 150 MB free. Typical apps I always have running in the background are K-9 Mail, Weather Bug Elite, and Swype. I also found the Droid X unlock screen to be consistently "laggy". It never froze up on me but the UI experience was not smooth like the Incredible.
2. Signal reception - This is the one that concerned me the most. I heard so much about the Incredible's signal reception being really bad that I wanted to see how much better the Droid X performed. Now keep in mind I don't look at the number of bars, rather I looked at the signal strength as displayed in Settings -> About Phone -> Network. I live in a pretty rural area where signal coverage for all providers is pretty low. For that reason we use a VZW Network Extender that uses our bordband connection. For all my tests I disconnected the network extender so I was only dealing with the "native" coverage. Time after time I compared the Droid X and HTC Incredible signal strength and they were essentially the same. I also download a free program from the Android Market called "Real Signal" and used it to compare signal strength between the two devices. Same results. The one area I did notice a difference was a call to my voice mail in the local Walmart. I called Voice Mail on my HTC Incredible and the call faded in and out and was hard to understand. Using the Droid X to make the same call yielded a clearer call and no fading in and out. I do not know if this was an anomaly or if for some reason the Droid X was able to pull in a better signal inside Wally World.
In most of the comparative "Droid X/HTC Incredible" reviews I have read the Droid X seems to come out slightly ahead. However, in the areas of memory usage the Incredible seems to be out far ahead. As far as signal strength goes they appear to be neck and neck.
I would be interested to see what other HTC Incredible and Droid X owners have found regarding their signal reception.

I keep going back and forth as well. I decided on the Incredible for my initial order since I like the size and it has been rooted for longer. I'm waiting for the 08/03 shipping date. On the off chance I dislike the Incredible, I'll just trade it on the X. It's good to hear that the memory on both is sufficient of the small number of apps I would be running normally. Thanks!
