I had the memory issue until I searched for and delete all info in my .mail and data folders that was older than dirt, I haven't had an issue since.... (Now I Will though)

I too never found a trash / trashes folder, anywhere...

I also have all memory for camera/mail etc sent to the SD card, and with +-16GB available, and I clean it often too, hopefully the issues been washed away, and hopefully 2.2 will be helpful.

i think the trash or trashes folder is for mail..i was gonna mention this before, but i think it depends on the mail app you use. i use k-9 which accesses yahoo directly. only cache from it is stored on the phone. all the mail etc. stays on their servers. i dont use gmail from my phone. i access it from my phones browser. i use quick app cache clean to clear caches now and then. so maybe the trashes folder is created for certain mail apps and you .mail folder was created by whatever mail app you use. but this memory issue seems to be related to mail it seems

I agree that it is with Mail, and I use a pop account, gmail, and exchange on this phone, heck mail is the reason I got it, + the other fun apps, so if mail is what was screwing it up, something will have to change... Love the Fluff it rocks, but without good email that works without memory issues, I may start looking back if it happens again.

root explorer for now maybe? once a week or so maybe go in and delete your mail folder contents.

btw, i did a search for *mail* in root explorer and the few folders that came up were tiny. less than a few 100k

I did the original search when I ended up deleting all the extra stuff, and sorted by size and reviewed all the large folders for content etc. I didn't worry about program folders but that was where I found the mail "junk" of old, almost 2gb worth, it's gone and hasn't been over-filled since, as I check it every week or two...

just did the ole hard reset and its kinda liberating. If 2.2 doesnt fix all the quirks it might be time to switch to a 'gulp' Moto phone. I think I can limp on with this for a while. It did take me over 3 months to get to the issue in the first place.

My girlfriend has had this problem twice. It doesn't make very much sense, but what ended up fixing it was uninstaling updates for facebook and re-updating it! If that doesn't work, I would go through every appear and uninstall updates for them. Then power down and back on and install all the updates again!

Here is what I have experienced with this problem.

It mainly has to do with the Facebook app. I was told that even though we have a total amount of memory and hardrive space that each app only gets a small partition of it. One app cant use as much as it wants. So you get this notification if one of your apps fills up its allotted memory.

I get this problem popping up when I sign in and out of different FB accounts frequently. If I go into the app settings clear the cache and data then the notification goes away.

If you're not sure which app go into the main settings menu, manage applications , tap your apps and look for any with seemingly large data " and tap clear data on it
