    Touchscreen Shakes

The touchscreen on my 2 year old Incredible has developed a bad case of the shakes. Using the "Touch Test" app I can see that the screen is responding to a series of repetitive phantom taps about a half inch from the left edge ranging from between 1 to 3 inches from the top - always in that straight line.

Multiple factory resets have had no impact. I have read all the posts about the dirty optical joystick problem so I have cleaned it repeatedly and even completely removed the optical joystick - but the problem remains. (Was planning to replace the OJ if the problem corrected without the OJ).

Once the shaking starts I hit the power button two times (on/off) and then can usually finishing what I am typing. but it is mostly unusable.

I will be upgrading soon but I hate to see my reliable phone go out like this.
Anyone have drastic measures to suggest?

Clean the screen with vinegar and water dampened on a paper towel. Straight vinegar on one part of paper towel, let it sit about 20-30 seconds, water on the other for rinsing, then dry with a clean soft cloth.

Are there any dances that you have to do, maybe chanting hummmmmmmm while it sits?

Two cleanings with vinegar may have helped - will see with more time.
Thanks so much for the suggestion - never heard of cleaning with vinegar.

Yes, but that is commonly known, at least in my group, maybe it's a California thing
LOL, I guess the acid from the vinegar gets off any residue? I'm always cleaning my screens with the screen cleaning solutions, so that must keep the residue off mine... It's basically just rubbing alcohol and perfume, with a polish...

Alcohol can cause anything petroleum or oil based to let go . A good thing for cleaning fingerprints and such,a bad thing for adhesives that you don't want to come loose like the mirrored coating on ones high dollar sunglasses.
You'd be amazed at what white vinegar will clean when used for a cleaning agent. I've saved a lot of money not having to buy cleansers for the shower, window cleaner ,swiffer spray, power washer soap, stain remover for clothes, etc.
