Is your phone rooted??? If so, have you installed a new ROM? If you are rooted but have yet to install a new ROM this would be the problem. Find a new ROM, install and BAM, no more update messages. If you are not rooted, then I have no clue as to what the problem may be, but hang around and someone here will help.
The information on this link really helped me: Second GB Update/Patch Won't Reboot Issue - SOLVED! - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com
It's an update to build number 4.08.605.2 from 4.06.605.3 which you probably have now. The same thing is happening to everyone - it has happened to me about 5 or 6 times.
Don't worry about it. My phone works just fine as it is and according to the people who have it, the update doesn't seem to do much to improve it. There is a way to get the update to download but it involves getting into an area where you can do some damage if you don't know what you're doing.
Thanks flmangll, I followed that link and spent a lot of time looking at the thread and trying to get the update to work on my phone.
Restarting and clearing the cache as suggested, removing lots and lots of software updates, changing the date on my phone, and re-loading the update finally took.
Before today, I had allowed the update several times on my phone, and although there was no error message, it never re-started and the update never loaded. It looks like what I did today might possibly solve the "low on phone storage" message I kept getting more and more often, I sure hope so! That's why I jumped on here in the first place.
The nice person at the Verizon store telling me I just needed to replace my phone under my phone insurance plan... whatever...
