Incredible 2 Touchscreen Won't Function Occassionally

My wife and I both got Incredible 2's about 4 months ago. We find that more than occassionally, we reach for the phone and the touch screen will not respond at all. We cannot unlock the screen, because it won't even respond. We can't turn the phone on or off, because the touch screen won't respond to a "drag down", and you need be past that point to bring up the restart menu.

After many tries to unlock the screen, we let the phone sit for a couple hours and then it is working just fine. BOTH ours phones do this.

Is it a temperature thing?

Anyone else run into this?

I never experienced that before.. I would say that maybe they are defective devices are they both non rooted devices?

I don't know what non rooted means. Could you.please explain?We have standard screen protectors sold to us by Verizon. That should not matter, right?

That could possibly be it. My Inc 1 was more finicky before I took mine off and ran it naked. Fwiw, I've been using it with no screen protector for over a year with 0 damage to the screen and I'm not gentle in my phone at all.
Root means hacking into the os to get super user privileges, which it sounds as though you haven't done.
Widget Locker app allows waking the phone from dark via the volume buttons.That might help as a last resort but I'd bet the screen protector is the culprit

I run no case or screen protectors on my Inc2 and it still looks brand new Rooted gives you Super User priviledges on your phone so you can flash custom roms/radios and kernels

I have the same problem with mine and I don't have a screen protector. I've done a Factory Reset and it still doesn't help. I'm ready to throw this phone in the ocean.

I am having the same issues too. I have reset the software, I have used my phone with a protector for most of the time I have had it without any issues but now it doesn't matter if I have a protector or not. It appears that the functions work when I hold the phone sideways but off and on upright.
1. I can't slide for notifications (off and on problem)
2. Some keys on the keyboard can only be typed when I hold the phone sideways.
3. Sometimes I can't hang up the phone
4. Sometimes it just freezes up and I have to put in sleep mode and then wake up.

I am starting to really hate this phone. I have had it for about 2 years and loved it until recently.

Hi All,
We may all be dealing with different symptoms.
Let me give EXPLICIT description of what I've come across; if this is not what you are all discussing, then I will start separate thread. Please reply if you know solution.

when I am ready to end call, I pull the phone away from face and touchscreen is hung in powerless black for many minutes:
(1) the touchscreen is completely black & nonresponsive to hardcoded 4 buttons (Home,Menu,Back,Search)
(2) also when pressing top-right Power/Lock button, the touchscreen flickers from powerless black to glowing black and back again
(2) above touchscreen in upperleft (to left of VZW logo checkmark) is rapidly flickering

Has anyone seen this before?
