Can the Droid Incredible be used like a traditional GPS unit?

Assuming you are going to a location with no cell service or wifi, can local maps of where you intend to be, be downloaded before you go there? Then use it like a traditional GPS unit? Save locations, routes taken, etc... all WITHOUT being connected to the cell network or wifi?

I am taking a jungle trek into central Brazil this summer and want to use my phone in this manner.

Is there an app for this, or a workaround?
