How are these custom Gallery app builds created? I'm a little weary of installing "untrusted" applications on my phone. Could someone describe the procedure to create the installable apk?

I installed the 3D gallery and I must say, it's pretty sweet.
i installed the launcher apk file and it made my phone a little laggy. so i uninstalled it. only thing i liked about the launcher was the 3d menu when scrolling through the apps. but i found another found in the android market called launcher pro beta. its a little better but it lacks the 3d menu. but i like sense better so i stuck with that...
I tried out the Nexus launcher and the 3d gallery. I hated the nexus launcher, it was too laggy. The gallery is awesome though!![]()
The launcher isn't bad. There are five things I would like to see integrated...
1. the ability to view home screens in landscape
2. the ability to add more home screens (I recently saw on on the market that let you add up to 9 home screens)
3. The ability to choose which home screen is the main screen
4. short cuts on the bottom like Launcher pro or Helix
5. the pinch to zoom out and select your home screen like sense has.
I've tried Helix, Helix2, and Launcher Pro and they all seem to lag and force close a lot!
3d gallery is nice, but I find some issues with it. When going from a photo just taken to the 3d gallery, it can get in the habit of bringing you to other photos first instead of the one you just shot. Also, not sure if they have this corrected, but it did not recognize the internal storage.
GDE is a nice home alternative if you dont mind giving up Sense. You can pick how many screens, which is the main, rotate the main screen etc.. I personally like Sense and the stock launcher is perfectly fine for me. Besides, no matter what is said, a 3rd party app does have a tendency to lag on occasion.
