need help with rooting

I seem to not understand a portion of the rooting process as described by enlightened in http://www.incredibleforum.com/forum...ked-3-3-a.html

In Step 1 #7, it says that your phone should turn to HBOOT USB PLUG

Then in Step 2 #1 it says to start phone in normal mode.

I don't see how you can go from that screen to starting in normal mode. Do you go to fastboot and bootloader? Do you go to reboot or reboot bootloader? I have NO clue. I've been just highlighting fastboot and hit the power button and then scroll down to power down because it doesn't say what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Asks if my firmware was too new and said root failed. Any ideas with that message?

Hmm, I've never heard of this issue before. Please go to menu-->settings--> about phone and tell us what's listed for build number, software number, PRI and PRL versions.

Running the right firmware. Give it another shot with unrevoked.

Still nothing. Tried XP and 2 computers with Vista...no luck. On my device manager, instead of "Android for ADB" it reads, "Android Composite ADB Interface". Is this my problem? That's the only difference I've come up with.

I run the unrevoked, the white screen comes up and these are the messages I get...in this order.

-Found a Droid Incredible.
-Rebooting...
-Waiting for Reboot....
-Waiting for system to settle (might a be a minute)
-Running root...
-Error: Failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?

I'm getting the same message. Spent the last couple of hours researching before taking the leap only to have it fail in 90 seconds. :-/

Edited to add that I'm on a Mac (10.6.6).
