Help with Incredible 2!!!!!

I am trying to figure out what I need to do to get rid of my stock apps and make my phone run faster and better and also try and increase battery life. I have always used the Iphone and descent at hacking them but this is a completely different animal. I dont know if I want to hack the phone or just find a way to disable and delete all the stock apps. This phone is awesome and from what Ive read rooting the droid phones makes it unreal. I have no idea where to begin. I am running version 2.3.4 with HTC Sense 2.1. I need help asap cause I cant even listen to my music without my battery draining like crazy I still have the stock battery and I really dont wanna go to the bigger batterys cause I am rough on my phones and wouldnt be able to find a good case like otterbox to fit with the extended battery pluse I need to keep really good signal too. So guess what I am asking is what can I do to delete the stock apps boost my phone up in performance and increase battery life and any tricks to help boost the signal from what it is now. Any help would be grand!!! Im looking to do this asap and I will need detailed instructions on how to do everything so I do not ruin my phone.

There are sticky threads about how to root in this Forum, with pretty detailed instructions.
But why do you suppose deleting an app will improve battery life? Just its presence in the phone doesn't mean it's running, and something not running doesn't consume battry power.
