Is This Even Possible?
I have been searching everywhere for an answer. I find plenty of information, but It's very conflicting.Basically, I'm asking if what I want is possible.I have an HTC Incredible. I got the OTA Gingerbread 2.3.4 upgrade last night.I want to root my phone ONLY. No custom ROMs, just the ability to run rooted apps.I want to keep 2.3.4 and all my apps.

There is no root yet for the recent Gingerbread OTA. If you wanted root, you should have done it before accepting the OTA. Now you just have to wait.

I was afraid of that. Ok, two more questions. In most cases, if I want to keep the stock ROM, would I loose all my apps if all I did was root?Is there an estimated release or progress I can watch for a 2.3.4 root, or am I in the dark until someone deliveres.

Rooting doesn't remove anything from the phone. You gain rights to do the removal of apps yourself. And there is no ETA on root for the OTA. You're just going to have to wait for someone or group to deliver this.

I found conflicting info on the apps. Thanks. Now I wait...

Tweebs is correct, any contradictory information is wrong. Root in itself will do nothing to your apps. Like she said, it gives you the ability to remove them but it does nothing automatically.
Generally the progression for most people is root and them ROM. That's where you can lose apps because most ROMs require you to do a wipe of your phone. Perhaps that's where the conflicting info comes into play but if/when you can root your device, it will look no different than it does now, your options will just be expanded.
